So, I don't know if anyone who reads this is up to speed on the latest Internet Meme. I thought I wasn't either, until I came upon this list of the 100 most iconic Internet videos. Much to my surprise, I had already viewed roughly half of them. I was also surprised (and quite entertained) to see how many of them I'd been missing all these years since the rise of YouTube, Kazaa, etc...
This list is also an interesting look into the collective human psyche -that is to say, how one rather obscure video of something unsubstantial can grab the attention of so. many. people.
I still don't understand why some of these videos got a million+ hits on YouTube, but it's at least worth a look at least for the explanation Urlesque gives to each piece.
So here, in this short list of favorites, I give you my top 10 videos of the top 100 list.
#10 (URL's #16) - "Charlie Bit my Finger"
- Oh, if only more kids were so nice to their siblings. And if they all had British accents.
#9 (URL unlisted) - Charlie Schmidt's "Cool Cat"
- This video spawned a plethora of videos titled "Play Him off, Keyboard Cat" in which we see another video of someone doing something stupid and/or hilarious and Keyboard Cat boots him/her off stage, as it were. This one if my favorites.
#8 (URL's unlisted) - Potter Puppet Pals in "Wizard Swears" (Rated PG 13 for language)
- Potter Puppet Pals has a slew of videos, but this one has to be my favorite. PPP's most popular video, "The Mysterious Ticking Noise", is URL's # 55.
#7 (URL's #72) - David Elsewhere
- I remember watching this my Freshman year of college and being amazed by this nerdy guy's dancing ability. Wait for the guy in the orange shirt and you'll see what I mean.
#6 (URL's #39) - The Two Talking Cats
- Not sure why this made me laugh so much. Personifying animals is always entertaining, right?
#5 (URL's #54) - Laughing Baby
- If this doesn't bring a smile to your face I don't know what will. This baby's laugh is so genuine and that I can't help but giggle the whole way through.
#4 (URL's #63) - Aicha
This video brings me back to Freshman year watching loads of videos with Betsy and the rest of my dorm floor crew. Apparently this guy was just a humble Belgian student when he decided to make a killer karaoke remix of the song "Aicha" originally by Jean Jacques Goldman, and afterward his face was plastered into viral video history.
#3 (URL's #18) - "I Like Turtles"
- This is every kid's nightmare when you have something as embarrassing as this happen (especially when you have several older sisters who would never let something like this go). I guess this kid couldn't stop thinking about those awesome turtles? I also like it how the reporter almost loses it after getting his response.
#2 (URL's #2) - Christian the Lion
Man, this is a pretty great story. This video is absolutely adorable and inspiring.
And #1 is...
Pretty freakin' adorable.
Ladies and Gentlemen...
I give you...Sneezing Baby Panda.
...So many reason why I love this video. So simple. So perfect. And it's a baby Panda!
I think I've watched this a good 20 times since I discovered yesterday. And to think of all the years of laughter I've lost since its inception.
Well, that's my list, for now. Please, if you have any other videos (preferably relating to the antics of animals) please post them or send them my way. It would be much appreciated.
